Configuring Door Unlock Schedules in UniFi Access

UniFi Access makes it easy to create tailored door unlock schedules, keeping doors unlocked during designated times and allowing free access without requiring authentication. If you're looking to manage access for people, click here.

Update your UniFi OS, as well as your Access and Protect applications and devices, to the latest versions for the newest features and optimal performance.

Configuring Recurring Unlock Schedules

Set a recurring unlock schedule with up to 20 timeframes per day.

  1. Navigate to Access application > Devices > select a hub.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Unlock Schedule > Enable Unlock Schedule.
    • Custom: Create a custom schedule.
    • Predefined: Select a previously created schedule.
    • Holiday Exceptions: Set the unlock timeframes for holidays.
    • First-Person-In Requirement: Keep the door locked until a designated person unlocks it during scheduled times. Resets daily or at set intervals.
      • Example: If an admin schedules the door to unlock from 9 AM to 5 PM and assigns Employee A as the first to enter, and Employee A enters at 10 AM:
        • The door stays locked until Employee A unlocks it with authorized credentials at 10 AM.
        • The door remains unlocked from 10 AM to 5 PM.
        • The next day, the door will stay locked until Employee A unlocks it during the scheduled timeframe.

Configuring One-Time Unlock Schedules

Set a one-time unlock schedule that locks or reverts to the scheduled setting after it ends.

  1. Navigate to Access application > Devices > select a hub.
  2. Navigate to Overview > Leave Unlocked > Leave Unlocked Timer.
  3. Select an unlock time:
    • 10 min, 30 min, 1 hour, or a custom time.
    • Always Unlocked: The door remains unlocked until manually ended.
  4. Click Start.

Using Double-Badge to Override Unlock Schedules

Double-badge override allows authorized users to temporarily pause or resume an active unlock schedule by authenticating twice (e.g., NFC card, PIN, or Touch Pass).

How It Works

When an unlock schedule is active:

  • First double-badge pauses the current unlock schedule.
  • Second double-badge resumes the unlock schedule.
  • The unlock schedule always continues to follow its original start and end times.

Configuring Double-Badge Override

  1. Navigate to Access application > Devices > select a hub.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Double-Badge Override > Double Badge to Override Unlock Period.
  3. Choose who can perform the double-badge action:
    • Anyone with Permissions: People who already have permission to unlock the door during the schedule.
    • Specific People: Select specific people or groups.
  4. Click Apply Changes.

Example

An unlock schedule is set for 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

At 10:00 AM, the schedule starts and the door unlocks. During this time, the door is expected to remain unlocked unless manually overridden.

If a double-badge override is used before 6:00 PM:

  • First double-badge: The unlock schedule is paused, and the door locks immediately.
  • Second double-badge: The unlock schedule is resumed, and the door unlocks again.

At 6:00 PM, the schedule reaches its end time and the door locks automatically, regardless of any previous overrides.

FAQs

Can I lock a door during its scheduled unlock time?

Yes. You can manually override the unlock schedule by navigating to Access application > Dashboard > hover your mouse over a door > Lock Settings > Overview > Lock Now.

Can the Access Reader screen display the unlock schedule?

Yes. The Intercom and Reader Pro screens can display the unlock schedule. To configure this, navigate to Devices > select a reader > Settings > Advanced > Show Unlock Schedule on Screen.

Can I use the Access mobile app to meet the first-person-in requirement?

No. For security reasons, remote unlock via the Access mobile app does not fulfill the first-person-in requirement. To meet this requirement, you must unlock the door using a valid access credential, such as an NFC card, Face Unlock, PIN, Touch Pass, or UniFi Endpoint mobile app's Mobile Unlock.

Can I apply the same custom unlock schedule to multiple Access Control Hubs?

Yes. You can create a predefined schedule and apply it across hubs in Access application > Devices > select a hub > Settings > Unlock Schedule > Enable Unlock Schedule > Predefined > Unlock Schedule and select a predefined schedule.

Can I set both a custom and a temporary unlock schedule on the same Access Control Hub?

No. Each Access Control Hub supports only one unlock schedule, either custom or temporary.
If you've set a custom schedule but need a temporary one for a specific event, use the one-time unlock schedule. After it ends, the door will automatically lock and resume the custom schedule.

How do I keep a door temporarily unlocked outside the custom unlock schedule?

Use a one-time unlock schedule to keep a door temporarily unlocked.

For example, if your custom schedule runs from 9:00 AM–5:00 PM but you need the door unlocked from 7:00 AM–8:00 AM for a specific event, set a one-time unlock schedule for that period. The door will automatically lock afterward and resume the custom schedule.

What happens to the hub's lock or gate operator terminal during an unlock schedule?

When an unlock schedule is configured, the hub's LOCK or GATE OPERATOR terminal remains triggered according to the set schedule, keeping the door or gate unlocked or open for the duration of that time frame.
