Accessing UniFi NAS (UNAS) Drives

UniFi NAS (UNAS) provides centralized and secure file storage with flexible access options for both individual users and teams. This article outlines how drives are organized and the available methods for accessing them.

Drive Types

Personal Drives

Personal drives are created automatically for each user and are only accessible to that user. See Adding Users in UniFi for more information.

Shared Drives

Shared drives allow multiple users to access the same storage with defined permissions.

To create a shared drive:

  1. Navigate to UniFi Drive > All Files.
  2. Click New Shared Drive.
  3. Enter a Name, assign users, and optionally set a storage limit.
  4. Click Add.

Access Methods

UniFi Site Manager (unifi.ui.com)

  1. Administrators can upload and download files directly from Site Manager:
    Navigate to UniFi Drive.
  2. Select Personal Drive or a Shared Drive.

UniFi Identity Endpoint

UNAS can be accessed through the UniFi Endpoint app, which provides secure, identity-based access.

There are two configurations:

  • UniFi Fabrics: Designed for centralized, multi-site deployments. See Getting Started With UniFi Fabrics for more information.
  • Standard Identity (Single-Site): Designed for single-site deployments. Enable by navigating to
Settings > Identity > Get Started

SMB

UNAS supports SMB (Server Message Block) in order to mount drives and enable direct file access from Windows, macOS, and Linux. Users can interact with files while connected to the local network, or a VPN. See Add UniFi Drive to Your Desktop via SMB for more information.

SMB access can optionally be integrated with Active Directory (AD) for centralized authentication following the instructions here.

Local Web Access (IP Address)

Users can access files directly through a web browser by navigating to the UNAS IP address.
