Standalone Pairing for Bridge Devices
UniFi Bridge Devices can be paired out of the box, but their functionality will be limited when not managed by UniFi Network. For full feature access, we recommend adopting your bridge into a UniFi Cloud Gateway (e.g., Dream Machines or Dream Routers) or a dedicated UniFi host (e.g., Cloud Key G2 Plus).
Limitations
Standalone pairing provides basic connectivity only. Be aware of the following limitations:
- Uses default device credentials.
- Not managed by UniFi Network.
- Requires a factory reset before adoption into a UniFi host.
Supported Devices
The following models currently support standalone pairing:
- UBB-XG - minimum firmware version 2.1.0
- UBB - minimum firmware version 3.2.0
- UDB Pro - minimum firmware version 1.5.0
(This list may expand as additional devices are released.)
Pairing Devices
- Power both bridge units using a compatible PoE switch or PoE adapter.
See UniFi PoE Availability and Modes for details on supported power options. - Aim the two units toward each other.
- Triple-click the Reset button on one unit to designate it as the Parent.
- Its LED bar will show a cycling animation.
- The Parent will automatically initiate pairing with the other unit (the Child).
- During this process, the LED bar will cycle faster.
- Once pairing completes, the LED bar will switch to antenna alignment mode.
FAQ
My device is not powered on or is in a factory state.
A solid white LED indicates the device is powered on and ready for setup. If the LED is off, ensure it is receiving proper PoE power. Refer to your device’s specifications for required power input.
If the LED shows solid blue, the device has already been configured. Perform a factory reset before reattempting pairing.
Summary and Best Use Case
Standalone pairing allows a quick wireless link without UniFi Network management, useful for testing connectivity or establishing temporary point-to-point links. For long-term or production use, adopt the bridge into UniFi Network to enable full management, monitoring, firmware updates, and performance optimization tools.
