Requirements

- A backup of your old UNAS stored locally or in the UniFi Cloud.
- Both UNAS devices are updated to the latest version for compatibility. Learn more here.
What Data Will be Migrated?
The following data and configurations are transferred:
- UniFi OS configurations and users.
- Drive configurations and users.
- All data in shared and personal drives on the UNAS.
Creating a Backup on Your Old UNAS
- Open unifi.ui.com in your browser.
- Select your old UNAS and navigate to Settings > Control Plane > Backups.
- Create a System Config Backup.
- Power off the UNAS once the backup is complete.
Restoring the Backup to Your New UNAS
-
Set up the new UNAS via unifi.ui.com using the same UI Account as the old UNAS to update it to the latest GA version.
-
Note: Do not insert the HDDs while the new UNAS is powered on, as this may result in data corruption.
-
- After the update, perform a factory reset on the new UNAS, then power it off.
- Remove all HDDs from the old UNAS and insert them into the new UNAS in the exact same order.
- Note: Do not change the HDD order, as this may result in data corruption.
- Power on and set up the new UNAS, and select Restore from Backup.
- Or choose to Upload your backup file downloaded from your UI Account > Console Backups beforehand.
- Sign in with your UI Account and select your system backup from the Cloud Backup list.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the restoration.
Migration Failure
If migration fails, follow these steps:
- Power off the new UNAS.
- Remove the hard drives.
- Power on the UNAS and perform a factory reset.
- Reinsert the hard drives.
- Repeat the steps in Restoring the Backup to Your New UNAS (above).
