Adding UniFi Access to an Existing UniFi Deployment

UniFi makes it easy to expand application support by adding a supplementary UniFi Console to your deployment. If your UniFi Cloud Gateway doesn't run UniFi Access, you can simply add a Network Video Recorder (NVR) or CloudKey+ to manage your UniFi Access equipment. Even when running on a separate UniFi Console, Site Manager (unifi.ui.com) ensures seamless, centralized management within your existing deployment.

Choosing the Right Console for Your UniFi Access Setup

This section provides the performance test results for various UniFi consoles when used with Access Control Hubs and Access Readers, helping you determine which console best fits your deployment size, user count, and door unlock methods.

Test Setup & Environment

All tests were conducted in a controlled lab environment using each console's default hardware configuration (no hardware modifications or expansions). The setup was designed to simulate a realistic multi-door Access deployment with varied user and door configurations.

Performance Benchmark

The maximum supported user and device capacity for each console was determined under controlled test conditions, based on the following high-performance criteria:

  • CPU usage: < 80%
  • Memory usage: < 90%
  • System reload time: < 2 × (number of CPU cores) seconds
