Downgrading from UID Enterprise to UniFi Identity

To downgrade from UID Enterprise to UniFi Identity (requires UniFi OS 3.2.5 or later), you need to remove your UniFi Consoles from the UID Enterprise workspace. Before you begin, follow the requirements carefully to ensure your users, services, and permissions are retained locally.

Prepare Before Downgrading

Ensure your UID Enterprise Agent is up to date and your door access devices are migrated to the UniFi Access application.

  1. Navigate to your UID Enterprise Manager > Settings > UniFi Consoles > Consoles.
  2. Select the UniFi Console you want to downgrade to UniFi Identity.
  3. If you see Update UID Enterprise Agent, click it.
  4. If you see Migrate Door Access Devices, click it and complete the migration. (Skip if this option is not shown.)
  5. Click View In Site Manager and navigate to the Access application > Devices to verify that all devices are migrated and online.

What Happens After Downgrading

After removing a console from UID Enterprise, users can no longer access the following via UID Enterprise desktop and mobile apps:

  • One-Click WiFi
  • One-Click VPN
  • Door access
  • Talk softphones
  • EV Stations

To restore access, users must install UniFi Endpoint and load the credentials

However, users can still unlock doors using their assigned PINs and NFC cards

Downgrade Methods

  • Removing a console from UID Enterprise automatically downgrades it to UniFi Identity.
  • Your UID Enterprise workspace remains active (only the console is removed) and is not deactivated.

Method 1: Remove UniFi Console from UID Enterprise

This method automatically retains all data and services locally, including user data, One-Click WiFi, One-Click VPN, Door Access, Talk softphones, and EV Stations.

  1. Navigate to your UID Enterprise Manager > Settings > UniFi Consoles > Consoles, and select the console you want to downgrade to UniFi Identity.
  2. Scroll down to Manage > Remove Console and click Remove
  3. Confirm to delete the console and click Delete.
  4. Once removed, navigate to your Site Manager (https://unifi.ui.com/), select the console removed from UID Enterprise, and select Settings > Identity to manage more settings:
    • Site Logo
    • Services: Enable One-Click WiFi, One-Click VPN, Door Access, and other services.
    • UniFi Endpoint Credentials
      • Auto-Send Invitations When a User Has an Email: Automatically send a UniFi Endpoint invitation email to existing users after resources are assigned.
      • Require a Verification Code When Loading a Credential
    • Directory Integration
    • Manage
      • Add to an Existing Workspace
      • Deactivate UniFi Identity

Method 2: Remove UniFi Console from Site Manager

This method lets you choose whether to retain existing data. To retain your users, services, and permissions locally, you must tick the Retain Users and Migrate Services to UniFi Identity checkbox. If not selected, you will need to reconfigure everything manually.

  1. Navigate to your Site Manager (https://unifi.ui.com/) and select the console you want to downgrade to UniFi Identity.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Admin & Users > UID Enterprise > Manage, and click Remove Console from UID Enterprise.
  3. Confirm you want to remove the console and tick the following checkboxes as needed.
    • Retain Users and Migrate Services to UniFi Identity
    • Send UniFi Endpoint Invitations to Users Automatically: The UniFi Console Owner and other existing users will receive an email invitation to install and activate the UniFi Endpoint app.
  4. Click Proceed.
  5. Once removed, you'll be directed to the UniFi Identity page, where you can manage more settings:
    • Site Logo
    • Services: Enable One-Click WiFi, One-Click VPN, Door Access, and other services.
    • UniFi Endpoint Credentials
      • Auto-Send Invitations When a User Has an Email: Automatically send a UniFi Endpoint invitation email to existing users after resources are assigned.
      • Require a Verification Code When Loading a Credential
    • Directory Integration
    • Manage
      • Add to an Existing Workspace
      • Deactivate UniFi Identity

FAQs

I have deactivated UID Enterprise on a UniFi Console. Can I reactivate it on the console?

Yes. You can reactivate UID Enterprise on the UniFi Console in two ways: by creating a new UID Enterprise workspace on the console or by adding the console to an existing workspace.

Can I use the same email address to create multiple UID Enterprise workspaces?

No. Each email can activate only one UID Enterprise workspace. Here are alternative approaches if you want to use the same email address for the workspace owner across different workspaces.

How do I transfer from UID Enterprise to UniFi Fabric?

  1. Remove your UniFi Consoles from UID Enterprise by following the steps above. Ensure you understand the effects of the downgrade before proceeding.
  2. Create a UniFi Fabric and add your UniFi Consoles to the Fabric
  3. Prepare your subdomain. The same subdomain cannot be used for both UID Enterprise and UniFi Fabric.
    1. To release your subdomain for use with UniFi Fabric, choose one of the following:
    2. After you complete either option above, please contact us to release your subdomain: uid.support@ui.com
  4. Ensure you understand the following:
    • Access policies and NFC cards are retained. To use an NFC card after migration:
      1. Hold the NFC card to the reader once to provision it to Fabric.
      2. Hold the NFC card to the reader again to unlock the door.
    • PINs are not retained. Users will need to create a new PIN in the UniFi Endpoint mobile app.
