UniFi - How to Uninstall the UniFi Network Controller


Overview


This article will give instructions on how to uninstall the controller from the supported platforms. Be sure to download a backup file from the controller if the configuration is still relevant. See the Related Articles for more.  

NOTES & REQUIREMENTS: Applies to UniFi Network Controller installed on Debian-based Linux, Windows, and macOS. To reset a controller from a Cloud Key or Dream Machine, please reset the device. To reset the UniFi Network Controller from a Cloud Key Gen2 Plus (UCK-G2-PLUS) without resetting the UniFi Protect installation, please see this article.

CLI: Access the command line interface (CLI). You can do this using the CLI button in the GUI or by using a program such as PuTTY.

The easiest way to uninstall the controller is through a purge command in the terminal. Follow the steps below to purge the controller install. 

1. Open terminal or SSH to the controller host. 

2. Use the following command:

sudo dpkg -P unifi

3. After the command above completes, the controller should be fully purged from the system. In addition, a reboot should take care of any residual files.

Depending on the OS type (win10/server) navigation may vary.

1. Open Apps & Features in Windows settings.

2. Find Ubiquiti UniFi (remove only).

3. Select Uninstall and follow the prompts. 

4. When this process completes the controller should be uninstalled. 


macOS

1. Delete the UniFi app from the Applications section.

2. Delete the folder: ~/Library/Application Support/UniFi/

You can get to this folder by several paths:

  • Option 1: Click option+Go in Finder's top menu bar to access Library. From there navigate to Application Support > UniFi.
  • Option 2: /Applications/UniFi.app/Contents/Resources.

3. After those two items have been removed the UniFi Network Controller should be removed from the system.  

Note: Do not double click on UniFi.app, as it will launch the application, instead, Right Click > Show Package Contents.
