Live User Statuses (BLF) in UniFi Talk
UniFi Talk supports real-time user presence indicators—known as Busy Lamp Field (BLF)—to help users quickly see the availability of other users in their organization. These statuses are displayed in the Favorites, Recents, and Contacts screen on supported hardphones and mobile softphones, as well as in the UniFi Talk console application.
BLF provides instant visibility into whether someone is available, on a call, or not to be disturbed, improving call routing and internal communication.
How It Works
Each user's status is represented by a color
- Available – Green
- Do Not Disturb (DND) – Red
- Redirecting Calls (Call Forwarding) – Violet
- On Active Call – Orange
Statuses update automatically in real time based on user activity or preferences, including active calls, DND settings, and call redirection.
Where BLF Statuses Appear
- Hardphones: Favorites, Recents, and Contacts screens
- Mobile softphones: Within the Identity Standard app under Favorites, Recent and Contacts sections
- UniFi Talk console: User statuses are shown universally throughout the console application. This includes standard contact lists as well as configuration interfaces such as Smart Attendant, where presence indicators help with call flow decisions.
Device Compatibility
BLF statuses are automatically enabled for users assigned to the following devices:
UniFi Hardphones
- G2 Touch, G2 Touch Max
- G3 Touch Pro, G3 Touch Enterprise, G3 Touch Wall models also display user status via the LED located below the screen.
- Red – DND
- Violet – Redirect
Requirements
- UniFi Talk version supporting BLF is (latest version recommended)
- Identity Standard app (latest version recommended)
- Compatible hardware (see above)
Configuration
No configuration is required—BLF is enabled automatically for all supported devices. Users' presence status is updated based on:
- Manual DND mode activation
- Active call detection
- Enabled call redirection settings
Troubleshooting
If live user statuses are not appearing:
- Confirm that the user is assigned to a compatible device.
- Ensure the device is updated to the latest firmware version.
- Restart the phone or softphone app if the status appears outdated.
- Check the UniFi Talk console for device registration and status.
