Understanding UniFi Door Closer
The UniFi Door Closer (UACC-DoorCloser), available in US and EU models, lets you fine-tune how your door opens and closes—no UniFi Access Control Hub needed. Mounted directly on the door, it ensures smooth, quiet, and safe operation. This article explains the key terms from the installation guide (US | EU) to help you adjust the Door Closer for optimal performance. Phases of Door Movement
Backcheck Speed
- Function: Adds resistance when the door is forcefully opened (typically beyond 70°–85°).
- Purpose: Prevents damage from strong pushes or wind. Helps protect the door, walls, and people nearby.
Closing Speed
- Function: Controls how fast the door moves from fully open to about 15° before closing.
- Purpose: Ensures a smooth and safe closing motion. Prevents slamming and supports controlled movement.
Latching Speed
- Function: Regulates the final 10–15° of the door closing, right before it latches.
- Purpose: Ensures the door latches securely without bouncing or slamming. Supports a quiet and secure close.
Spring Force
Door closers use internal springs to control the speed and force of a door closing. According to US or EU standards, different doors require different spring forces based on size and weight.
-
Use a screwdriver to turn the spring tension screw to shift between forces.
-
Clockwise (+) = stronger force
-
Counter-clockwise (−) = weaker force
-
- Always test door closing after each adjustment to ensure safety and compliance.
US Standard (Sizes I to VI)
- Used mainly in North America.
-
Factory default is typically Size III.
- Adjust using clockwise turns to increase from Size I up to Size VI.
- Example: To go from Size III to Size V, turn the adjustment screw about +6 to +9 turns clockwise.

EU Standard (EN2–EN6)
- Used mainly in Europe.
- Factory default is typically EN3.
- Adjust using clockwise turns to increase from EN2 up to EN6.
- Example: To go from EN3 to EN5, turn the adjustment screw about +6 to +9 turns clockwise.
