Comparing U-LTE and UMR Devices

UniFi offers two LTE connectivity solutions, each designed for different deployment needs:

  • U-LTE & U-LTE Pro: LTE backup devices that provide internet continuity during WAN outages.
  • UMR: LTE mobile routers that act as gateways for mobile operations.

When to Use U-LTE

U-LTE and U-LTE Pro are ideal for offices or locations with a UniFi Gateway and a critical need for automatic internet failover. Because they create a GRE tunnel to the UniFi Gateway over the LAN, allowing failover from anywhere in your network, for optimal LTE signal.

Key Benefits to U-LTE:

  • Seamless failover with no WAN port needed.
  • Can be positioned for the best LTE signal strength.
  • Managed from the UniFi Network application.
  • Works automatically once adopted and configured.
  • PoE passthrough on both models
  • Integrated omni LTE antenna with support for an optional external LTE antenna.

When to Use a UMR

UMR routers are ideal for sites where LTE is the primary internet connection, and they are also perfect for making a temporary WiFi Hotspot. They are designed for deployments requiring outdoor or mobile setups.

Each model serves a different need:

  • UMR: General-purpose indoor LTE router with full PoE and WiFi capabilities.
  • UMR Ultra: Compact, power-efficient, great for remote deployments with IoT devices.
  • UMR Industrial: Rugged, weather-resistant, with high-gain antennas for outdoor or industrial use.
