How to Adopt UP-Sense

The Protect All-In-One Sensor (UP Sense) is a battery-powered smart sensor designed for surveillance purposes. It is capable of detecting door activity, motion, lighting, and environmental changes.

You can adopt a UP-Sense to your network via the UniFi SuperLink, a long-range UniFi Protect gateway, or over nearby BLE-enabled APs. To learn more about SuperLink, click here.

Adopting UP-Sense

Adopting UP-Sense to SuperLink Gateway

UP-Senses are adopted through a SuperLink Gateway. Alternatively, if you have a U6 AP with BLE, skip to the next section to learn how to easily adopt it through that.

  1. Set up your SuperLink following the steps outlined here.
  2. Power on the UP-Sense units.
  3. Adopt the UP-Sense units and configure your desired settings. To learn more about adoption, click here.

Adopting UP-Sense to APs

  1. Verify APs in UniFi Protect:
    • In Protect, go to Settings > System > Advanced to view all linked APs, listed under Bridge Devices.
    • If an AP is adopted but does not show a Linked status, unadopt and readopt the AP to refresh the connection and allow UP-Sense to link properly.
    • If you’re experiencing difficulty and you have a UNVR, try using both ports to connect to different VLANs.
  2. Adopt the UP-Sense
    • Power on the UP-Sense units.
    • Adopt the UP-Sense units and configure your desired settings. To learn more about adoption, click here.

UP-Sense & UP-Chime Integration

UP-Sense can be linked with UP-Chime so that an audible alert is triggered when motion or door activity is detected. This functionality is configured in Protect’s Alarm Manager.

How to Link UP-Sense with UP-Chime

  1. Ensure Both Devices Are Adopted
    • UP-Sense must be adopted into UniFi Protect via a SuperLink or BLE-enabled AP (see adoption instructions above).
    • UP-Chime must be adopted into UniFi Protect.
  2. Configure an Alarm in UniFi Protect Alarm Manager
    • Open UniFi Protect and navigate to Alarm Manager.
    • Click Create Alarm.
    • Under Trigger, select Sensors, then choose what you want to sense. 
    • Under Scope, include your UP-Sense.
    • Under Action, select Sound, then choose the UP-Chime as the playback device.
    • Save the alarm.
