UniFi SuperLink Gateway Setup and FAQs

The SuperLink Gateway is a long-range UniFi Protect gateway that connects sensors via Bluetooth and SuperLink for extended wireless coverage. Designed to support sensors with up to a 2 km line-of-sight range and extended battery life, SuperLink enhances the flexibility and reliability of UniFi Protect deployments, making sensor monitoring easier and more versatile than ever.

Key Features

  • Dual Radios: Bluetooth for short-range connectivity and proprietary SuperLink for ultra-long-range connectivity (up to 2 km).
  • High Capacity: Supports up to 96 SuperLink (USL) sensors and up to 7 legacy UP-Sense (BLE) devices via Bluetooth.
  • Flexible Power Options: Powered via PoE or USB-C, offering multiple deployment options.
  • Mounting Options: Wall or DIN rail mount options make installation fast and easy.

Setup

  1. Plan Device Placement:
    1. Identify where SuperLink USL sensors will be installed.
    2. Determine an optimal location for the SuperLink gateway so it is within SuperLink range of all sensors. Additional gateways can be installed to provide greater coverage.
  2. Physically install the SuperLink Gateway:
    1. Secure the SuperLink gateway on a wall or DIN rail.
    2. Supply power using either PoE or the USB-C port.
  3. Adopt the SuperLink Gateway to UniFi Protect:
    1. Adopt the gateway in UniFi Protect. To learn more about adoption, click here.
  4. Connect SuperLink (USL) sensors:
    1. Power on the USL sensors.
    2. Adopt the USL sensors and configure your desired settings.
  5. (Optional) Connect UP-Sense (BLE) Devices:
    1. Power on the UP-Sense (BLE) units.
    2. Adopt the UP-Sense (BLE) units and configure your desired settings.

FAQs

What is SuperLink and how does it compare to the existing BLE interface?

SuperLink is an optimized wireless protocol designed for low-latency, long-range communication with software update management enhancements. Unlike the existing BLE devices, SuperLink endpoint devices offer superior range and power efficiency while minimizing delays, making it ideal for security, automation, and industrial applications.

How many SuperLink Gateways can be connected to one console?

There is no limit to the number of SuperLink Gateways used in a deployment. Sensors will automatically connect to the gateway with the best signal quality.

What is the range of SuperLink’s SubG connectivity?

SuperLink can communicate with SuperLink sensors up to 2 km line of sight. Actual performance may vary based on environmental factors such as obstacles and local RF conditions.

Is SuperLink secure?

SuperLink implements end-to-end encryption, authentication, and secure OTA updates. It benefits from the robust security infrastructure of UniFi OS, ensuring robust protection for all deployments.

Where can I install SuperLink for the best coverage?

For optimal range, mount SuperLink high on a wall or on a DIN rail in a central location, minimizing obstructions between the gateway and your sensors.

Will SuperLink require a UniFi OS Console to operate?

Yes, SuperLink is managed through UniFi OS, ensuring tight integration with UniFi Protect and future IoT applications.

What is the range of SuperLink’s Bluetooth Radio?

SuperLink has a long-range BLE radio for connecting to UP-Sense units. The range is improved compared to the Bluetooth radio on U6 Access Points.

Can I use SuperLink alongside existing Bluetooth-enabled U6 Access Points?

Yes, UP-Sense (BLE) units will automatically connect to the Bluetooth gateway with the strongest signal. Sensors can also be locked to a specific gateway in UniFi Devices > UP-Sense (BLE) > Connection Settings.
