Using Recognitions in UniFi Protect

UniFi Protect’s AI-series cameras deliver intelligent recognition, enabling alerts that help you monitor Persons of Interest (POI) and Vehicles of Interest (VOI).

How Recognitions Work

UniFi Protect’s AI cameras automatically analyze facial features and license plate numbers, enabling the system to identify individuals and vehicles over time across your entire property. To view all clips associated with a person or vehicle, go to the Recognition tab in UniFi Protect and click the corresponding face or license plate.

Creating Alerts for a Recognized Person or Vehicle

  1. In the UniFi Protect app, open the Recognition to view detected faces and license plates.
  2. Select a face or license plate, then click Add a Name to label the person or vehicle.
  3. Use Alarm Manager to create a custom notification or webhook when that person or vehicle is detected. To learn more, see our Alarm Manager guide.

Fine-Tuning Recognition

Recognition works automatically, but you may occasionally need to fine-tune its training.

If two different individuals are mistakenly grouped under the same recognition, click the recognition, select the incorrect instances, and mark them as Not this Person.

If the same individual generates two separate recognitions, use the Merge Faces option in the upper-right corner to combine them.
