Making Calls and Managing Activity in UniFi Talk
UniFi Talk phones offer seamless voice, video, and intercom calling, along with advanced call management features like transfers, conferencing, and failover settings.
This guide focuses on performing those key call actions. If you are looking for a general guide to setting up UniFi Talk, click here.
Initiating Calls
Standard Audio Call
An outbound call can be made by directly dialing the number—no prefixes are required. Any user assigned a phone can immediately start making calls.
Users can be prevented from calling certain numbers, internally or externally. For more information, go here.
Parallel Call
A parallel call allows you to make additional, separate calls while another call is ongoing.
- From the active call screen, press Add / Transfer.
- Choose a contact via the Contacts Tab or manually dial a number using the Keypad Tab.
- Press Call to start the parallel call. The current call will be placed on hold.
Conference Call
Conference calls allow you to add multiple participants to a single call.
- While on a call, press Add / Transfer.
- Add participants via the Contacts Tab or by dialing their number using the Keypad Tab, then press Add to Call.
- During an active call, press the CONF soft key.
- Add participants via Enter a Number or Select a Contact, then press CONF again.
Intercom Call
Intercom calls are perfect for quick internal communications.
- Tap the (i) button to expand a contact’s information.
- Press the Intercom button.
By default, intercom calls are auto-accepted by the callee, who is placed on mute. Users can change settings to reject intercom calls or disable auto-mute. Admins can also disable intercom calls for users from the UniFi Talk application.
Video Call
Video calls make use of the built-in camera and video screen on UniFi Touch devices.
- Tap the (i) button to expand a contact’s information.
- Press the Video Call button.
This feature is available for UniFi Talk Touch series phones that are managed by the same UniFi Talk application.
Managing Active Calls
Forward an Incoming Call
Forwarding a call sends it to another Talk user before you have answered the call, without interrupting the caller’s experience.
- Press the blue Forward button on the incoming call screen.
- Select a contact from your list to forward the call.
Transfer an Active Call
- While on a call, press Add / Transfer.
- Transfer using either the Contacts Tab or the Keypad Tab.
- Choose between:
- Cold Transfer: Immediately transfer the call without speaking to the recipient.
- Warm Transfer: Speak with the recipient before completing the transfer.
- Press the TRANSFER button during an active call.
- Select a contact via Enter a Number or Select a Contact.
- Once connected, press TRANSFER again to finalize.
Park a Call
Call parking temporarily holds a call and allows other users to pick it up. For information on setting up Parking lots, click here.
- Press the Park button while on an active call (Touch and Touch Max phones).
- Retrieve parked calls via the Recent screen, available to all users in the same Parking Lot.
