UniFi Play - Wiring Speakers in Parallel with the UniFi PowerAmp
Connecting four passive speakers to a PowerAmp requires careful attention to the wiring process to ensure optimal sound quality and system performance. This guide will walk you through the necessary steps, explain the importance of using the correct equipment, and clarify how different wiring methods affect your setup.
Before You Begin
Check Speaker Compatibility
- Ensure all speakers have an impedance rating of 8 ohms.
- Avoid wiring speakers in series to prevent potential sound degradation.
Note: You should wire a maximum of two parallel speakers to each set of terminals.
You Will Need
- 16-gauge (AWG) or 1.3 mm diameter audio cable
- Wire stripper
- Screwdriver
Wiring a Speaker to the UniFi PowerAmp
- Loosen the screws on the PowerAmp’s banana plugs until the holes for the speaker wires are exposed.
- Insert the stripped speaker wire into the banana plug hole and tighten the screw to secure it.
- Insert each banana plug into the corresponding terminal on the PowerAmp, ensuring that the red and black wires match the terminal colors.
- Attach the other end of the speaker wire to each speaker, matching the cable colors with the speaker terminals.
- Power on the system and test with music.
