UniFi Access - Connect to Door Operators and Configure Software Settings
Access Control Hubs support connecting to door operators to enhance the convenience of opening and closing doors for precision, reliability, and safety.
- Access Hub (UA-Hub) and Door Hub (UA-Hub-Door) can connect to one door operator.
- Gate Hub (UA-Hub-Gate) can connect to up to two gate operators.
- Enterprise Access Hub (EAH-8) can connect to up to four operators.
Connect Door Operator to Access Control Hub
A door operator operates independently of the Door Hub for power. Door Hub is used as an example here.
- The door operator's control input is usually connected to the NO and COM of the AUX DOOR OPERATOR terminal of the hub and sends a small signal to check if the relay is open or closed.
- During the normal rest condition (door closed), the hub's AUX relay is open, so the door operator does not trigger any action.
- When an unlock event is triggered, the relay switches to the closed position. The door operator receives the signal and opens the door.
Configure Door Operator Activation Delay and Door Open Duration
Once a door operator is connected to the hub, you can configure delayed activation. These settings are crucial for wheelchair access applications.
- Go to your Access application > Devices > Hubs > select a hub > Settings > Terminal Manager > Terminals > AUX.
- Do either of the following:
- UA-Hub: Go to Auxiliary (AUX) > Dry Terminal Mode > Door Opener.
- UA-Hub-Door: Go to Auxiliary (AUX) > Door Operator.
- EAH-8: Go to Auxiliary (AUX) > Terminal Mode > Door Opener.
- UA-Hub: Go to Auxiliary (AUX) > Dry Terminal Mode > Door Opener.
- Delay Door Opening: Enable this option, go to Open Door After, and specify the time between user authentication and door opening. Electric strikes, maglocks, and electrified exit devices must be triggered before the automatic door opener activates.
- Open Duration: Set how long the door operator stays activated after triggering.
- Click Apply Changes.
Wheelchair Access Applications
Automatic door operators are commonly used for wheelchair access doors, automating entry for individuals with accessibility needs. This involves button activation, timed door operation, and adherence to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines and life safety standards.
Door operators must comply with force and speed limitations for safety and regulatory adherence, such as the specific criteria outlined in BHMA A156.19: Power Assist and Low Energy Power Operated Doors (page 6):
- Doors must stay fully open for at least 5 seconds.
- The force needed to stop the door's movement should not exceed 15 lbf (67 N) when applied 1 inch (25 mm) from the latch edge.
- The kinetic energy of a moving door should not exceed 1.25 lbf-ft (1.69 Nm).
- During a power failure, the door should be manually operable with the following forces:
- A maximum of 15 lbf (67 N) to release the latch.
- A maximum of 30 lbf (133 N) to start moving the door.
- A maximum of 15 lbf (67 N) to fully open the door.
