UniFi Connect - Create Automations
Automations allow you to streamline your business operations by controlling multiple UniFi Connect devices at once. For example:
- Schedule your EV Stations to allow charging only during off-peak hours and turn off all lights after work hours to manage energy costs.
- Schedule a holiday ad campaign for specific dates so your digital signage amplifies an in-store promotion.
- Set up automations to simultaneously update media content on multiple digital signage displays with a single click.
Understanding Automations
When creating Automations, you can select one or more adopted UniFi Connect devices and customize their settings individually when configuring your Automation. For example, you can set up a single Automation to simultaneously turn on a Connect Display to present a specified web URL and prohibit charging at an EV Station.
You can also assign Triggers to your automations, either Manual or Scheduled:
- Manual Only: Triggered manually in the UniFi Connect web application or mobile app.
-
Schedule: Triggered on a schedule. Options include once, weekly, or within a defined date range.
- Note: Automations are single actions. To schedule a device to turn on and off at specific times, you must set up two separate Automations: one to turn the device on, and another to turn it off.
To quickly create Automations from existing device configurations, select Devices and click Import Current Settings.
Example Use Cases
Imagine your restaurant has a set of rotating specials that are promoted based on seasonal availability. To set this up:
- Create an Automation for each special, assign the relevant content to all Display Casts.
- Whenever the featured special rotates, simply trigger the corresponding Automation manually to update content on all displays at once.
Imagine you want to turn off lighting outside of business hours to improve your building’s energy efficiency. To set this up, create two Automations:
-
Automation 1: Turn On Lights at the Start of Business Hours
Schedule all lights to turn on at 9:00 am every weekday. -
Automation 2: Turn Off Lights at the End of Business Hours
Schedule all lights to turn off at 5:00 pm every weekday.
Imagine you want to schedule a holiday ad campaign between December 1 - 31, where all Display Casts turn on at 9:00 am and turn off at 8:00 pm to align with store operating hours. To set this up, create two Automations:
-
Automation 1: Holiday Ad
Schedule all Display Casts to turn on and play the holiday ad campaign video at 9:00 am every day. -
Automation 2: Turn Off Displays
Schedule all Display Casts to turn off at 8:00 pm every day.
Imagine your electricity costs are lowest between 1:00 am to 6:00 am on weekdays and throughout the entire day on weekends. To schedule EV charging for only off-peak hours, create four Automations:
-
Automation 1: EV Charging at Dawn
Schedule EV Stations to allow charging at 1:00 am every weekday. -
Automation 2: No Daytime EV Charging
Schedule EV Stations to disallow charging at 6:00 am every weekday. -
Automation 3: Weekend EV Charging
Schedule EV Stations to allow charging at 12:00 am every Saturday. -
Automation 4: No EV Charging at the End of the Weekend
Schedule EV Stations to disallow charging at 12:00 am every Monday.
