UniFi Access - Add Door Attendants for Location Management

Once the Access application is set up, the UniFi OS Owner automatically becomes the Door Attendant for all locations. Admins can also be assigned as Door Attendants to manage specific locations.

  • Only the UniFi OS Owner, Super Admin, and admins with Full Management permission for Access can edit Door Attendants.
  • Super Admin and admins with Full Management or Door Attendant permission for Access automatically assume the Door Attendant role.

Door Attendant Capabilities

Door Attendants can perform the following actions for designated locations on their Access application and mobile app:

  • Watch live views from Pro Readers, Intercom (UA-Intercom), and paired Protect Cameras
  • Monitor door position sensor (DPS) status in real-time
  • Keep a location locked down or temporarily unlocked 
  • Enter Admin Mode on Pro Readers and Intercom
  • Answer doorbell calls initiated from Pro Readers and Intercom
  • Receive doorbell call notifications from Pro Readers and Intercom
  • Remotely unlock doors paired with hubs they are assigned to
  • Receive doorbell notifications from third-party doorbell buttons

Requirements for Receiving Doorbell Notifications

  • Visitors initiate doorbell calls from Pro Readers or Intercom (latest versions required).
  • The UniFi OS Owner has enabled Remote Access in Access > Settings > Control Plane > Console > Advanced.
  • Admins with the Door Attendant permission have completed the following:
    • Allowed their PC to receive notifications from their browsers. Mac and Google Chrome are used as an example here.
    • Allowed their browsers to receive notifications from unifi.ui.com.

    • Allowed their mobile phones to receive notifications from UniFi Access.
      • Android: Go to the phone's Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
      • iOS: Go to the phone's Settings > Notifications > NOTIFICATION STYLE > Access > Allow Notifications.

Enable/Disable Doorbell Push Notifications on Access Mobile App

The UniFi OS Owner, Super Admin, and admins with Full Management and Door Attendant permission can enable/disable doorbell push notifications on their Access mobile app.

  1. Ensure your Access Android or iOS app is running 2.1.0 or later.
  2. Open your Access app and go to System Log > More > Push Notifications > Doorbell Rings
  3. Tap the Doorbell icon to enable or disable doorbell notifications.  
  4. Tap Save.

Assign an Admin with Door Attendant Permission

By Creating an Admin

  1. Go to your Access application > Settings > Admins & Users > Admins and click Create New Admin.
  2. Enter the UI Account Email and keep the Restrict to local access only checkbox unticked; otherwise, the admin will not assume the Door Attendant permission. 
  3. Do either of the following:
    • Select Use a Predefined Role to assign a custom role created in Settings > Admins & Users > Admins > Manage Roles.
    • Set the Access permission to Full Management or Door Attendant.
  4. Click Create.

By Upgrading a User

Follow the instructions here to upgrade a user to an admin with Door Attendant permission. 

  • Ensure the UI Account Email is entered.
  • Ensure the Restrict to local access only checkbox unticked; otherwise, the admin will not assume the Door Attendant permission. 
  • Assign permission by doing either of the following:
    • Select Use a Predefined Role to assign a custom role created in Settings > Admins & Users > Admins > Manage Roles.
    • Set the Access permission to Full Management or Door Attendant.

Add Door Attendants to Access Control Hubs 

When Hubs Are Paired with Pro Reader or Intercom

Assigning Door Attendants to hubs allows them to receive doorbell notifications, answer calls, watch live feeds from paired Pro Readers or Intercoms, and remotely unlock doors, all through their Access application or mobile app.

  1. Go to your Access application > Devices > Hubs > select a hub > Settings > Door Attendants.
  2. Click Caller Manager. Learn more about Caller Manager and Receivers
  3. Hover your mouse over the Pro Reader or Intercom and do either of the following:
    • Click Add Receivers if no receivers have been added yet.
    • Click Manage Receivers if some receivers are already added.
  4. Select the Door Attendants to add as receivers when visitors initiate doorbell calls.
  5. Click Add or Save as prompted.

When Hubs Are Paired with Protect Cameras or Readers Without Built-In Cameras

This also applies to Access Ultra (UA-Ultra). Assigning Door Attendants to hubs allows them to remotely unlock doors and watch live feeds from paired Protect cameras, all through their Access application or mobile app.

  1. Go to your Access application > Devices > Hubs > select a hub > Settings > Door Attendants.
  2. Click Select Door Attendants and add Door Attendants to the hub. 
  3. Click Save.
