UniFi Access - Installing UniFi Access Devices

UniFi Console Requirements

You must have either of the following:

  • UniFi Dream Machine Pro (UDM-Pro)
  • UniFi Dream Machine Special Edition (UDM-SE)
  • UniFi Dream Wall (UDW)
  • UniFi Network Video Recorder (UNVR)
  • UniFi Network Video Recorder (UNVR-Pro)
  • UniFi Cloud Key Gen2 Plus (UCK-G2-Plus)
  • UniFi Dream Router (UDR) (Does not support UniFi Identity Enterprise Door Access)

Powered by a PoE++ Switch

For optimal performance, Access Control Hubs including Access Hub (UA-Hub), Door Hub (UA-Hub-Door), Elevator Hub (UA-Hub-Elevator), and Access Ultra (UA-Ultra) must be powered by a PoE++ switch.

Direct Hub-to-Reader Connection

For security and resilience purposes, UniFi Access Readers must also be directly connected to Access Control Hubs to facilitate door unlocking.

The direct hub-to-reader connection is crucial for maintaining continuous functionality, especially during console outages or network disruptions. For instance, if the local network is unavailable or the UniFi Console experiences issues, UniFi Access Hub and UniFi Access Reader can operate independently. This autonomy eliminates the reliance on the UniFi Console, contributing to a dependable and resilient access control solution.

Additionally, you have the flexibility to implement targeted backup power solutions using a Switch Mission Critical or a UPS on their switches, focusing specifically on the hub and reader. This approach optimizes resource allocation, ensuring a swift and effective response in emergency scenarios without compromising the overall network.
