Introducing Site Magic SD-WAN

2023-09-21 02:58:58 UTC

Site Magic SD-WAN allows you to easily inter-connect UniFi Gateways across multiple locations with just a few clicks to create a high-performance and scalable SD-WAN.

Instead of setting up complicated manual site-to-site VPNs and networking between multiple gateways, simply select the gateways you want to connect through the UniFi Site Manager at unifi.ui.com.

As long as one gateway has a public IP, even gateways behind NAT or on LTE/5G service can participate.

Requirements

Getting Started

  1. Navigate to Site Magic from the left menu on the UniFi Site Manager.
  2. Select the sites you want to connect.
  3. Name the Site Magic group.
  4. Select the networks that will be shared across the Site Magic Group.
    1. If networks have overlapping subnets, follow the instructions here.
  5. Click Connect.

Further Information

Maximizing Performance
If more gateways have public IPs, the network will be more resilient, and the additional routes between gateways should help with performance.
Site Limitation
Currently, Site Magic is limited to 5 sites. This will increase significantly in UniFi OS 3.2.
Connections During Cloud Issues
Site Magic will not drop during a cloud issue. However, you won’t be able to update the configuration if, for example, there is a WAN/LAN change. This requires the Cloud to be available.
Gateway WAN IP Address Changes
If a Gateway changes its WAN IP Address, the new IP address will be automatically updated on the other gateways and Site Magic will stay connected. This is true for both gateways with public IPs and gateways behind NAT.
Transferring Admin Ownership
As stated above, all participating consoles must have the same admin. If an ownership transfer is initiated on a console that is a part of a Site Magic Group, the connections to that site will automatically close while the other sites will remain up and running.
