UniFi Protect - Get started with the G4 Pro camera

The G4 Pro (G4-PRO) is a 4K camera equipped with a 3x optical zoom lens and high-powered infrared LEDs for enhanced night vision.

This article outlines the G4 Pro's power and installation requirements, its adoption process, and answers frequently asked questions about the device.

Power and setup requirements

To use your G4 Pro, you will need:

  • A network video recorder (NVR), such as the UniFi Dream Machine Pro (UDM-Pro), UniFi Network Video Recorder (UNVR), or Cloud Key Gen2 Plus (UCK G2 PLUS).
  • A UniFi Protect application hosted on any of the NVRs above. For more detailed setup instructions, see UniFi Protect - Getting started.
  • Any 802.3af/802.3at Ubiquiti PoE adapter or a UniFi PoE switch.


Install and adopt the G4 Pro camera

What does it mean if I see a spinning, blue LED ring on my G4 Pro?

The blue LED ring indicates detected motion. For more information on the G4 Pros LED ring, see the G4 Pro Quick Start Guide.


What does it mean if the G4 Pro LED ring is flashing green?

It means that your camera is currently not connected to your network video recorder. Check the cable connection of your NVR and camera, and make sure that it is not performing a firmware update (your cameras will automatically reconnect once it's finished).


Why is my G4 Pro not recording in 4K?

The high frame rate mode might be enabled. This setting facilitates smoother footage playback but limits resolution to 1080p. For more information on high frame rate mode and instructions for disabling it, see UniFi Protect - Use UniFi Protect.


Is the G4 Pro capable of two-way audio transfer?

No, the G4 Pro does not have speakers so two-way audio is not supported.


Is the G4 Pro's mounting plate the same as for the G3 Pro?

While the G3 Pro camera's mounting plate is slightly smaller, the distance between the drilling holes on the mounting plates are the same. The distance is 48.8 mm.
