Setup and power requirements
To use your G4 Doorbell, you will need:
- A network video recorder (NVR), such as the UniFi Dream Machine Pro (UDM-Pro), UNVR, or Cloud Key Plus (UCK-G2-PLUS).
- An UniFi Protect Controller hosted on any of the NVRs above. For more detailed setup instructions, see UniFi Protect - Set up the UniFi Protect Controller.
- A 16-24VAC, 20-30VA power line.
Note: In existing installations in Europe, the doorbell chimes may be 230V, which may not function properly with the G4 Doorbell. We recommend to confirm your chime and transformer are compatible with 24V AC. For a list of compatible chimes, please visit the G4 Doorbell product page.
While the G4 Doorbell has its own camera, it can also be used with other UniFi Protect cameras.
Install, adopt, and configure the G4 Doorbell

Note: All wiring must be done prior to installing the G4 Doorbell. The bell itself must be connected in a series circuit including a chime box and a transformer.
To manage your newly installed doorbell, you need to adopt it to your UniFi Protect Controller.

Set a G4 Doorbell’s display message
- Open your G4 Doorbell camera in the UniFi Protect app.
- Tap on the Text icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Select a preset message or enter a custom one:
- Tap on one of the available message options to apply it; or
- Tap Add a Custom Message and type the message that you would like the G4 Doorbell to display.
Change the microphone settings
- Open your G4 Doorbell camera in the UniFi Protect app.
- Go to the camera's settings.
- Adjust the sound settings in the Light & Sound section as needed.
Frequently asked questions
Does the G4 Doorbell include a bell or chime device?
The G4 Doorbell package doesn’t include a chime box device. For a full list of the G4 Doorbell’s package contents, refer to the Quick Start Guide.
Which chime boxes are compatible with G4 Doorbell?
Any wired chime box is compatible as long as the correct transformer is used.
What transformer should I use with the G4 Doorbell?
We recommend using a 12-24V, 30VA transformer with the G4 Doorbell.
What do I do if the chime box is not ringing or working properly?
Make sure you are using a compatible transformer that can power the doorbell and the chime box, such as a 24VAC, 30VA transformer.
Is the G4 Doorbell PoE?
No, the doorbell is powered by either a 24VAC, 30VA transformer, or a power supply unit, and uses WiFi for connectivity.
Will the G4 Doorbell work as a standalone device?
