Pre-2021 UNVR Flash Storage Resiliency Improvements
This only applies to UNVRs with a datecode of 2048 or EARLIER.
UniFi is proud to offer a new capability that expands the lifetime of our flash storage technology used in our UNVRs produced prior to November of 2020. Like all memory, flash storage has a limited lifespan based on the amount of data that is read and written. UniFi has found a way to extend this lifetime by moving important data from near-failing flash storage to a more durable and long-lasting HDD. Please note that this does not affect UNVRs manufactured after November 2020 because they use a new and improved storage technology that does not require these software improvements.
This feature will be enacted automatically for those who have enabled UniFi OS Auto Updates. Others will be notified if it ever becomes necessary.
You must have at least one drive inserted to proceed. Once begun, the migration is quick and easy, taking only 5-10 minutes to complete. Afterwards, the data will be mirrored across all drives using a RAID 1 storage configuration. This array will continue expanding to new drives as well to ensure a truly lasting lifetime.
Remember, this data is helping maintain normal operations of your UNVR. As such, you must always keep a minimum of one working drive inserted at all times.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Are there any changes to my recording performance or maximum number of cameras my device can support?
No, your UNVR will perform to the same standards.
What happens if I remove all HDDs after the migration.
Your UNVR will behave as if it were in a factory default state. You should make sure to always include at least one functional HDD at all times.
Can I use my device while the initial migration is happening?
Your UNVR will be temporarily unavailable while the migration is occurring. To ensure a successful migration, please do not turn off the power or interrupt the process.
