UniFi - How To Reload a UAS using the ISO and IPMI


This article demonstrates how to use the ISO downloaded from the Ubiquiti website to restore the UniFi Application Server (UAS) to factory defaults with the latest UniFi and UniFi Video software packages.

  • This article assumes you know your IPMI credentials.
  • This process can also be completed using Remote Control > iKVM/HTML5 if desired.

Before following the steps outlined below it is important to note that since performing this procedure will reset the UAS to defaults, all UniFi, UniFi Video, and IPMI systems will be defaulted and set to the software version included in the ISO. Any required backups of UniFi and/or UniFi Video should be made before you perform this procedure.

WARNING:This procedure will irrevocably destroy all configuration and all data included on the internal SSD, as well as any drives installed in the front hard drive bays.

1. Download the latest ISO. You can find the latest ISO available at the Ubiquiti Downloads page. Note that the image is upwards of 1GB in size so it may take some time to download over slower internet connections.

2. Log-in to IPMI. Connect the IPMI port on the UAS to a network switch. The IPMI interface will request an IP address via DHCP. Use the UniFi Network application to find the client’s IP address, or refer to your router’s DHCP table, then open the IP address in Chrome.

If you have configured UniFi or UniFi Video in the past, use ubnt as the username and the same password configured for those applications. Otherwise, log in using the default username and password ubnt / ubnt.

NOTE: The IP address used to access IPMI is NOT the main interface address used to access UniFi and/or UniFi Video.

3. Attach the Downloaded ISO. Once the download is complete, follow these steps to attach the ISO to the server via IPMI:

3.1. Mouse over Remote Control.

3.2. Click Console Redirection.

3.3. Click Launch Console.

3.4. Click the newly downloaded .jnlp file.

3.5. Accept any warnings that may come up.


3.6. Open the Virtual Media menu, then click Virtual Storage. In the window that opens, select ISO File as the Logical Drive Type, then click Open Image and select your downloaded ISO file. Mount the ISO by selecting "Plug In" and then OK to close the dialog.


4. Reboot the Server.

4.1. Power Reset the server using IPMI.


4.2. When the following screen appears, tap F11 continuously, to invoke the one-time boot menu. If you miss the opportunity to load the Boot Menu, Power Reset the server as you did in the prior step and try again.


4.3. At the following screen, use your arrow keys to highlight the Virtual CDROM, then press Enter.


4.4. Wait while the process completes.  Once finished, the server will show you a black screen via IPMI, displaying ‘No Signal’ in the window’s title bar.

5. Detach the ISO. Detach the ISO as shown in the following animation, by clicking Plug Out:


6. Power On the Server Using IPMI. From the IPMI Viewer window, click on Power Control and select Set Power On from the dropdown.

7. Configure the UAS-XG. The UAS should now be in a factory-default state. Close all IPMI windows and proceed to follow the instructions in the Quick Start Guide to configure the system.
