The UFiber GPON Accessories

When building a network with UFiber equipment it is required to use accessories to successfully connect the UFiber OLTs and UFiber ONUs. Ubiquiti offers an extensive collection of accessories that allows you to easily and quickly set up a UFiber GPON network. The advantage of using the official accessories is that they are fully compatible and supported on all UFiber products.

The following UFiber accessories are available:

Accessory / Description
UF-GP-C+
UFiber GPON SC/UPC fiber module used to populate the other PON ports on the OLT.
The UF-GP-C+ module is capable of a higher transmit power than the UF-GB-B+ module.

UFiber Topology Example

In the topology example below, the traffic flows from the WAN to a router (for example the ER-8-XG), continues on to a switch (optional) and finally to the OLT. All of these devices are interconnected using 10Gbps fiber SFP+ modules or DAC cables (for example the UF-SM-10G) using the SFP+ slots.

Example UFiber GPON topology using the UFiber OLT, UFiber Nano G ONU and the different accessories.

The UFiber OLT can then be populated with either class B+ (UF-GP-B+) or class C+ (UF-GP-C+) GPON modules. Each module will connect to a PLC splitter supporting up to 128 UFiber ONUs (UF-NanoUF-LOCO or UF-WIFI) on each PON port.

The SC/UPC to SC/APC fiber cable that inter-connects the UFiber OLT to the PLC splitter is known as a feeder cable. In this example, the UF-SM-PATCH-UPC-APC accessory is used. There are different options available for the PLC splitter:

  • UF-SPLITTER-4 Split ratio of 1:4 with an insertion loss of -7.4 dB with connectors.
  • UF-SPLITTER-8 Split ratio of 1:8 with an insertion loss of -10.5 dB with connectors.
  • UF-SPLITTER-16 Split ratio of 1:16 with an insertion loss of -13.7 dB with connectors.
  • UF-SPLITTER-32 Split ratio of 1:32 with an insertion loss of -17.0 dB with connectors.

At the other end of the PLC splitter the UF-SM-PATCH-APC-APC accessory is used to inter-connect the PLC splitter to the ONU. This SC/APC to SC/APC fiber cable is known as the drop cable.

Because the feeder cable, PLC splitter(s) and drop cable(s) all use male connectors, the UF-ADAPTER-APC accessory is used to inter-connect the SC/APC ends of the cables.

NOTE:There is more information on the UFiber connectors and other splicing methods in the Fiber Connectors and Splicing article.
